MUENSTER — After allowing a season-high 66 points in their first meeting this season, the Sacred Heart Tigers used a stellar defensive scheme to thwart Abilene Christian 66-29 Friday night at the Tiger Den.
Sacred Heart (21-2, 8-0 district) led 16-9 after the first quarter and held a 33-14 lead at halftime.
In the second half, the Tigers continued to play well on both sides of the ball, outscoring Abilene 33-15 for the win.
“Tonight we really played great defense,” Sacred Heart Coach Jon LeBrasseur said. “This could be a special team if they continue to execute on the defensive end. We had great ball-pressure, got in the passing lanes and had great back-side help.”
Leading the way for the Tigers was Kevin Kulle who poured in a game-high 28 points while Greyson Evans added 10 in the win.
Also scoring for Sacred Heart were Kyle Knabe who added 8 points along with 7 rebounds and Ian Barnhill and John Krawietz finished with 4 points. Patrick Mojica scored 3 points while adding 8 steals and 3 assists. Garrett Berend also finished with 3 points while Josh Biffle, Jae Kook Im and Matt Hesse each added 2.
Next up for Sacred Heart is a Tuesday night contest at home against Longview Trinity Christian.
Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
Whitesboro takes down Bobcats
WHITESBORO — Keeping their playoff hopes alive, the Whitesboro Bearcats got a much-needed win over Celina Friday night in District 9-3A action by the score of 66-52.
The Bearcats scored often in the first quarter to take an early 23-9 advantage into the second frame. Whitesboro then led 46-25 at the half.
In the second half, the Bearcats outscored Celina 30-27 for the win.
Leading the way for Whitesboro was Austin Cleland who finished with a game-high 20 points. Other scorers include Matt Miller who finished with 12 points, Jordan Gill added 7, Cameron Clark scored 5, Zane Ferguson finished with 3 and Ryan Harbin and Joe Shepard each chipped in 2.
