Gainesville —
The annual Stanford House donation drive held Saturday at the senior center on West Garnett Street raised about $35,000.
The event included a free lunch courtesy of IntegraCare Home Health, a garage sale, music and drawings for a new Silverado pickup truck and three Walmart gift cards.
Stanford House representative James Hackler said the donations will “help keep the center afloat.”
“This is our main fundraiser each year,” Hackler said. “It helps pay the gas bill and the light bill.”
Hackler said he’s been a Stanford House regular for over a decade.
“Stanford is just a good place for recreation,” he said. “It gives people somewhere to go and spend time with their friends and neighbors.”
Stanford supporters Jim Robertson and his wife, Vicki Robertson were the winners of the new Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck purchased from an area auto dealer.
The Robertsons bought the winning ticket from volunteer James Lewis who reportedly has a history of selling winning tickets.
“This is the fourth time he’s sold the winning (truck) ticket,” his wife Mary Jean Lewis said.
James Lewis also sold the winning ticket for a $500 Walmart gift card. Winner Clark Peveto donated the card back to Stanford House, Hackler noted.
Other prize winners were Tank Nelson who won the $250 Walmart gift card and Harriet Lewis who snagged the $100 Walmart gift card.
Stanford House activities include the Time Out program for Alzheimer’s patients and their caregivers, card and domino games, luncheons, dances and educational events.
Stanford House is operated for residents 55 and older. For information on Stanford programs call 668-1452.
