Era's Dylan Brown named to Area Choir

Era — For the third year in a row, Dylan Brown, a senior at Era High School, has been named to the Area Choir.

Dylan began the competition with a sing-off during which he competed with 40 young men in Region 2. The contestants were from neighboring high schools.

Region 2 is composed of all high schools in the geographical area from Gainesville to Keller. The region also includes Denton.

There is no distinction whether the schools are 1A or 5A — an element which increases the difficulty level of the competition.

To prepare for competition, the singers learned ten songs in various languages. On the day of competition, the singers sang a short portion of several songs, beginning in the middle of the piece.

Singers were also asked to sightread, or perform a short song which they had never seen before.

During the final two rounds, Dylan was given a perfect score by ten different judges on the sightreading.

After several rounds of narrowing the number of contestants, Region 2 judges picked five young men for the Area Choir to represent them in Abilene at the All-State Competition.

Dylan will compete Saturday against Area A competitors, including Regions 1, 2, 16, and 24 for a spot in the All-State Choir.
