Compton's retirement party

— Former Cooke County sheriff Mike Compton, center, was honored at a retirement party Sunday in Gainesville. Compton completed his tenure as sheriff last December. He is pictured with his two sons, Matthew Compton and Cody Compton. “With Matthew working in the oil business and Cody in computers, I am standing in a good spot between energy and technology,” Mike Compton said.

As in years past, the local Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1922 organization will conduct a Memorial Day ceremony in the pavilion of Leonard Park.
