Cooke County —
Do you feel the need to “Step Up and Scale Down”? An upcoming eight-week educational program presented by Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service in Cooke County begins March 5, at Cooke County Library, and will offer education and motivational techniques on losing weight and changing diet.
Sessions are set for 12:15 to 12:45 p.m. Tuesdays. The program is based on the United States Department of Agriculture 2010 dietary guidelines and is intended to help participants choose a healthful eating plan within their calorie requirements to achieve and maintain a healthy weight.
Some of the weekly sessions will include topics such as setting goals, creating a healthy plate, label reading, meal planning, and “moving to lose.”
How about exercise? Do you need motivation to get up and get moving? If so, the upcoming “Walk Across Texas” might be suited for you. “Walk Across Texas” is also an eight-week program that encourages people to get up and get moving either by walking or by other form of exercise. The goal is to group together with eight people and log enough miles as a team to walk across Texas within eight weeks. The program is open to groups or individuals.
There is a one-time $10 fee to participate in “Step Up and Scale Down,” which helps to cover program expenses. There is no fee to participate in “Walk Across Texas.”
For more information on this program or on how to register, contact Angel Neu at (940) 668-5412 or by e-mail at adneu@tamu.edu.
