Volunteers build ramp for local home

Gainesville — Volunteers from Gainesville’s Home Depot store put their building skills to work this week to complete a wheel chair ramp for a local individual in need.

The project at the Carraway home on Highway 82 in Gainesville is the latest in a series of “Team Depot” home improvement efforts, volunteer Bobbie Bunievatz said.

Bunievatz and store associates John Young, Jerry Carnes, Mike Kelley and Mark Edgett used lumber, tools and other supplies donated by Home Depot to construct a ramp entrance for the home.

In addition to this week’s project, store volunteers have completed improvement projects at homes on Magnolia and Starr Streets.

Bunievatz said Team Depot volunteers also helped spruce up part of the Frank Buck Zoo.

“This is building community,” Edgett said. “We’re being a good social neighbor.”

Most of the volunteer projects take three or four days and are designed to make life easier for residents with some level of disability. Volunteers often build ramps, railings and safety features.

“We’re trying to give back to our community,” Bunievatz said.
