Pedestrian dies after being struck on I-35

Thackerville, Okla. — Love County law enforcement officials reported that Tuesday night’s pedestrian fatality of Eddie Ray Rolen, 42, of Scurry, remains under investigation.

Rolen was reportedly killed shortly after 9 p.m. while walking on southbound Interstate 35 in an area four miles south of Thackerville, Okla.

An Oklahoma Highway Patrol report explained that he was walking westbound across the interstate’s southbound lanes when struck by a 2000 Suzuki driven by Cory Simon, 27, of Manvel.

Simon was uninjured by the collision. Rolen was pronounced dead at the scene by medical examiners and later transported to Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home in Marietta, Okla. Roadway conditions were reportedly dry and Simon was reportedly in suitable condition to drive — but information about Rolen’s condition while walking on the interstate is pending.

Officers from the Love County Sheriff’s Department, Carter/Love County detachment, Thackerville Fire Department, Thackerville EMS/Fire Brigade and Shady Dale Fire Department worked the scene.
