Gainesville Independent School District representatives released information about young winners in recent spelling bees among various local campuses — a lead-in to the district spelling bee set for Jan. 24.
Gainesville Middle School student Jayden Jackson won his bee during the 13th round with a correct spelling of “ambitious.” At Lee Elementary School, the first place winner was fourth grader Colby Brasher; second place winner was fourth grader Lily Kemp; and the third place winner was fifth grader Tabitha Roy. This bee went 16 rounds and Brasher was the top speller from a list of 23 contenders through his correct spelling of “exception.”
Other Gainesville ISD spelling bee participants included Tori Hollar, Marlissa Braudaway, Haley Saddlemire, Kaily Luscomb, Lorissa Bailey, Virginia Mar, Martin Saenz, Kendrick Taylor, Charley Simmons, Dylan Dennington, Dillon Thompson, Jenny Liu, Aaron Seyler, Gabby Brasher, Lynzee Riel, Dylan Burnett, Trace Cooper, Katie Gann, Madison Lamb, Denesha Baker, Randy Ibarra, Alfred Moreno, Cerah Craven, Vanessa Mascareno, Matthew Rocha, Jaycie Calderon and Mattie Sherwin.
Chalmers Elementary School students are set to hold their campus bee at 1 p.m. today for second graders and 1 p.m. Friday for third graders. Beyond Jan. 24, only one winner among all the district campuses will participate in a county-wide spelling bee set for Feb. 13, a the Gainesville ISD Central Administration Building.
