Organizers of a motorcycle-themed benefit program banded together Saturday and landed more than $6,000 closer to their goal of giving all local children a fine holiday.
Members of Law Dogs Law Enforcement Motorcycle Club, Cooke County Cycle and the Cross Timbers chapter of the Christian Motorcyclists Association broke out the bikes for a 75-mile run through Cooke County. The event ended with a rally on California Street that included games and merchandise sales.
Sale proceeds, plus sponsorship income and profit from the run’s admission fees, will benefit the Littlest Angels gift drive program.
“Our goal is to do as much as we can,” organizer Tony Dresser said Saturday. “Our main goal is to make sure every child has something for Christmas.”
Dresser, a Law Dogs member, explained this bike run is the central Littlest Angel fundraiser of each year. And as in years past, it was open to drivers of all varieties, including cars, trucks or bicycles. The Littlest Angel program was founded in 1981, to help families who could not afford Christmas gifts for their children.
Dresser said event organizers sold 100 percent of every item intended — and that all related proceedings on Saturday unfolded safely.
“We did the entire run without any accidents, injuries or deaths, and that’s an important thing.”
Gainesville resident Shelley Head said events such as the motorcycle-themed toy run bring community members together through a vivid venue.
“It is one of the biggest fundraisers during Christmas-time,” she said. “And with these toy runs, nearly every community does that. With the one in Fort Worth, there will be a thousand motorcycles and it goes on for miles and miles. It’s huge. But for this area, this is pretty big, and it serves the purpose.”
Head added that biker groups in particular are reliable about making benevolent shows of force in times of need or tribute.
“They all really come together,” she said. “They’re very community-oriented.”
