Speed limits to change on some area roadways

Cooke County — Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) representatives reported Monday that new speed limit signs are set for installation today in select areas of Highway 82 in Cooke County.

“Speed studies were conducted by the Texas Department of Transportation on US 82,” explained TxDOT media official Adele Lewis. “The changes were necessary after evaluating the study data. The new speed limits were then approved by the Texas Transportation Commission.”

The new speed limits in the following areas are enforceable as soon as the signs are installed:

• The speed on U.S. Highway 82 will increase from 55 miles per hour to 60 miles per hour from the west side of Oak Ridge to just east of the established business district.

• The speed limit on U.S. Highway 82 will increase from 55 miles per hour to 70 miles per hour from the business district to FM 678.

• The speed limit from FM 678 to the Grayson County line will remain 70 miles per hour.
