  • Director Kent Sharp of Gainesville Economic Development Corporation (GEDC) spoke to the Gainesville Lions Club this week, giving an update on the local sales tax collection as to last year. Sharp spoke on the local unemployment rate, which he stated remained below 5 percent. Sharp also reported the GEDC was presently working with some companies that are expanding their operations, and expressed that hopefully, Gainesville will be considered. Club members also had questions regarding some vacated property and Sharp responded the GEDC will continue working with anyone who has voiced an interest in bringing their company to Gainesville. “Gainesville is one of the top performing cities in North Texas and I feel that we have come back very well from the recession,” Sharp said during the meeting.
