Nominations accepted for NCTC Alumni Awards

Gainesville — The North Central Texas College Ex-Students and Friends Association is now accepting nominations for two special awards that will be presented at the annual NCTC Foundation Gala in March.

The F.M Hemphill Distinguished Alumni Award is the highest honor that can be granted to graduates and former students of North Central Texas College by the NCTC Ex-Students and Friends.

The award recognizes alumni who have achieved distinction in their chosen field and have shown exceptional leadership qualities.

“The distinguished alumni award is the highest form of tribute given by our NCTC Ex-Students & Friends Association to graduates and former students who have achieved distinction in their chosenfield and have shown exceptional leadership qualities,” said Debbie Sharp, Vice-President of Advancement and director of both the alumni association and college foundation.

The NCTC Ex-Students and Friends Association has also established the NCTC Community Service Award to recognize individuals,organizations and/or businesses for meritorious service to the college and/or the community. The Association endeavors to recognize individuals, organizations and/or businesses which have made a difference at the college and in the community by giving of their time and resources over an extended period of time.

“As a public community college we believe it is certainly fitting to recognize individuals, organizations or businesses formeritorious service to the college or the community,” Shard said. “That is what our annual community service award is all about—showing our appreciation to those who have made a significantly positive difference at the college and in the community by giving of their time and resources over an extended period of time.”

Nomination forms can be picked up inside the NCTC Foundation office inside the Mary Josephine Cox building on the Gainesvillecampus. They can also be downloaded at www.nctc.edu/FoundationHome/Nominations.

Deadline for nominations is Feb. 8. This year’s Gala will be held on Saturday, March 23 at the Gainesville Civic Center. The theme this year will be “Stars on the Savannah.”

The NCTC Ex-Students and Friends Association established the F.M. Hemphill Distinguished Alumni Award 17 years ago in honor of the college’s distinguished president of the class of 1926, its first graduating class ever. Dr. Hemphill went on to distinguish himself in the fields of both higher education and public health.

Past recipients of the F.M. Hemphill Distinguished Alumni Award include Margaret Parx Hays, Jane Greer Hardy, Leon Liddell, Irene Clark Stiles, Curtis Gilliland, Shelby Fletcher, Johnny Leftwich, General Lew Allen, Jr., W.E. Chalmers, Dr. L.D. Clark, Marita McMillan, William “Bill” King, Sr., Donna Fielder, Steve Thompson, Kenneth Pollard, Vivian Aytes Thomlinson, Dr. Clinton A. McPherson, Dr. Jim Alexander, Mary McCain and Brad Neu.

The North Central Texas College Community Service Award was established seven years ago, with past recipients including Ben Pinnell, the Bowie 4B Sales Tax Corporation, Walter “Wally” D. Cullum, Denise Pearse, Gainesville Memorial Hospital, Denton Regional Medical Center, Denton Community Hospital, Medical Center of Lewisville and Bowie Memorial Hospital, Vanese Bledsoe Alquire, Betty Henderson, Master Gardeners, Ed Wright, Tom Carson, Charles Draper, Jack Reeves, Karon Sullivant, Staci Miller and Joanie Wyrick.
