MUENSTER — A Friends of Scouting fundraiser is coming to Cooke County March 23 at the Cooke County Cooperative in Muenster.
All Cooke County Scouting units will be featured at the event which will include displays of knot tying, cooking, crafts and other scouting activities.
Of the 20 Boy Scouts of America local councils in Texas, the Longhorn Council covers a 23-county area of North and Central Texas. Its headquarters is located in Hurst. Cooke County is part of the Frontier Trails District, one of the 20 districts of the Longhorn Council.
Greg Brock, Longhorn Council #662 Frontier Trails District Executive explained the purpose of the event.
“Fundraising is an important step in maintaining our programs,” Brock said. “ We believe that featuring the Scout units, we can show to whoever attends that scouting is thriving in the Cooke County area.”
Friends of Scouting plays a critical part in keeping the Council solvent, Brock noted. Expansion of the programs offered requires up to 34 percent of the annual budget.
Money raised by the organization provides revenue which will enable the Council to organize new cub scout packs, boy scout troops and venturing crews; develops volunteer adult training programs; member registration and advancement; maintains traditional summer camping programs; develops cutting-edge high adventure events and coordinates weekend activities.
Friends of Scouting fundraising strategies include community alumni and business leader involvement and family support through tax deductible gifts.
This year’s Cooke County event is chaired by Neil Hess, General Manager of the Cooperative in Muenster.
Scout displays will be set up from 4-6 p.m. and from 6-7 p.m. March 23.
Local businesses and individuals will be able to make contributions during the catered dinner program.
