Lions support youth programs

Gainesville — Gainesville Lions Club held its annual spaghetti dinner fundraiser Thursday. Club members and Cooke County 4-H youth served guests.

The event included a silent auction with a donation table. Lions Club member Elizabeth Mendenhall set up the auction table.

Country store managers were Lions Club members Bob Henderson and Betty Henderson. Items available included canned preserves, pickles, chocolate covered strawberry and marshmallows dipped in chocolate on a stick.

Joanie Wyrick served her homemade bread while desserts were made and donated by wives of Lions Club members and 4-H member Jill Walker.

District 2E2 Governor John Paul Burnett, Whitesboro Club Members, Pottsboro and Sherman-Denison Clubs were guests supporting the Gainesville Lions Club.

First State Bank marketing director Karen Cook and Cindy Hernendaz provided help with the main course.

Lions Clubs International helps support and promote programs for children including camps for disabled children and eye exams and eyeglasses for children from low-income homes.

Domestic Violence

During Monday’s commissioners’ court meeting, officials signed a proclamation declaring June as “Domestic Violence Awareness Month” throughout the county. Kim Cook (center right) of Gainesville’s Abigail’s Arms victim crisis center was present at the meeting and received the proclamation from County Judge John Roane.
