Christian Gathering is top parade entry

Gainesville — Winners among the participants in Thursday evening’s Gainesville Christmas parade were released Friday morning by the Gainesville Area Chamber of Commerce.

The parade’s chief winner was Christian Gathering Church of Valley View — which captured the “Mayor’s Cup” with a Bible-themed holiday float that also boasted the colors of the event’s official theme: “Silver and Gold.”

Gina Dill, a parade judge, said the church’s float won because it was an exact match for the theme while being luminous in its own right.

“There were three of us, and we didn’t agree on much,” she said about the judging process. “But we agreed on that one thing: We thought they really spoke to the theme of it.” Thursday’s winners included:

• Mayor’s Cup (Best Overall Entry): Christian Gathering Church

• Best Riding Club: Red River Shooting Stars

• Best Dance/Drill Team: Gainesville High School Varsity Cheer

• Best Car Club: Red River Redneck Riding and Yacht Club

• Best Band: Gainesville High School Band

• Best Business: Babe’s Chicken Dinner House

• Best Float: St. Mary’s Catholic School
