The Gainesville Area Visual Arts (GAVA) annual scholarship fundraiser is now underway at Vine and Branches in Gainesville. The show is from Feb. 8 through Feb. 14.
Proceeds from sales of local artwork will benefit the Cooke County student scholarship fund.
“This is our third year for the fundraiser and we have been able to present a $500 scholarship for a worthy senior,” said GAVA president Gerry Williams. “Our member artists donate their time and work to make this very important fundraiser a success for our organization. We are closed on Mondays, but we are selling raffle tickets for special prizes to also benefit the scholarship fund.”
Pam Ingham of Mountain Springs sold several pieces on Friday. Specializing in mixed media, Ingham loves to paint animals and birds.
“I paint from life and all my subjects hold a special place in my heart,” she said. “ The Mountain Springs ‘Kite’ pictured is one of a family of Kites we have on our property. They are very unique birds.”
Becky Sanchez, daughter of artist Diana Sanchez, is very proud of her mother’s work.
“Mom loves to paint and I am happy to experience this with her,” she said.
GAVA has several meetings, workshops and exhibit dates held at the NCTC campus at 6:30 on the fourth Thursday each month. Guests are invited to attend one complementary meeting prior to joining.
