Representatives of the Gainesville Future Farmers of America (FFA) chapter said the organization is in “full swing” during 2012.
“We are quickly making a name for ourselves, putting us on the map and making a positive difference in the community,” said Gainesville High School agriculture science teacher Shannon McCuistion. “Thus far, we have had great success with our annual ‘Riverstar Farms Smoked Meats’ and ‘Blue and Gold’ fundraisers.”
The teacher also said the organization will be highlighted in the monthly Vocational Agriculture Teachers Association of Texas (VATAT) newsletter for teaming up with North Central Texas College officials and utilizing new welding technology in the classrooms.
And recently, members of the FFA chapters competed at the District 1, Area 5 Leadership Development Events that were held at Chico High School.
“The Gainesville FFA did very well competing in four different events,” McCuistion said.
Event results are as follows: Colby Richardson placed 10th in “Greenhand Creed Speaking”; Grayson Gregory placed seventh in “Senior Creed Speaking”; Payton Cassidy placed fifth in “Job Interview”; and Evan Gregory, Payton Cassidy and Grayson Gregory all placed seventh in “Radio Broadcasting.”
On Dec. 3, the teacher said,10 students will travel to Bridgeport for the District 1 FFA banquet and related ceremonies.
“Spring is rapidly approaching, where we will compete for various scholarships, livestock shows, and judging events throughout Texas,” McCuistion said.
