Gainesville Police Department Investigator Chris Garner traveled to Austin to participate in the track and field portion of the games Saturday to take part in the 2012 Texas police Games.

The Gainesville Police Department was proudly represented in the 2012 Texas Police Games this past weekend. Investigator Chris Garner traveled to Austin to participate in the track and field portion of the games on Saturday, June 23.

Garner competed in the discus, shot put, javelin and high jump. He returned to Gainesville having earned a gold medal in both the discus and high jump.

The Texas Police Games are a sanctioned event held by the Texas Police Athletic Federation. The Federation’s primary goal is to promote physical fitness and wellness for members of the law enforcement community of Texas, and other states, by promoting athletic competition through the annual Texas Police Games.

“I would like to give a special thank you to the Gainesville Citizen’s Police Academy Alumni for their support,” Garner said.

He also said he plans to compete in next year’s games which will be held in Houston.

Garner said his ultimate goal is to medal in the 2015 World Police and Fire Games in Fairfax County, Va.
