For the third year straight, a free Gainesville venue will bring multiple disciplines of health and wellness together and under the same roof — with prizes and giveaways available as a bonus.

The “Healthy, Happy and Whole Expo” begins at 9 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 3, at Gainesville Civic Center, and continues through early afternoon. Sponsored by more than 20 health-related companies throughout several counties, the expo gives visitors a place that promotes those companies and their services while making freebies available.

Each station will feature candy and other goods and the expo is set to include concessions by Cooke County 4-H and Amigo’s Cafe.

“It’s free information,” said Joe Mozingo of Air Evac Lifeteam, a “platinum” sponsor company. “They can actually see someone and talk to them one-on-one, and there’s something for everybody.”

Screenings for diabetes, cholesterol, blood pressure will be available and visitors can also donate blood in a special section of the expo. Mozingo said if the weather agrees, his own company will be represented by a fly-in appearance by Careflite.

He added that Gainesville Fire Department and Emergency Medical Services representatives should also appear in keeping with the event’s theme of demonstrating the area’s strong medical foundation.

“It’s not just Cooke County, because we’ve got people coming from Love County, Grayson County and Montague County,” Mozingo said. “We’re trying to bring everyone together.”

The expo began in 2011. As with the debut, this year’s installment will feature gift baskets as door prizes and will include vendors that are not related to health, such as Mary Kay Cosmetics and jewel dealers.

And the idea of bringing together the multiple elements, Mozingo said, came from observing how well the vendors were doing on their own in smaller local venues, such as special events at pharmacies and churches.

“I saw a great response,” he said. “So the civic center was a natural choice. And we’ve had some great turnouts from both vendors and people.”
