Noah’s Ark animal shelter in Gainesville has a need for them.
Shelter staff members and volunteers are hoping to collect at 2,500 pairs of shoes to raise money for operating expenses at the shelter.
The shoe drive is set for November 1 through December 31, Noah’s Ark board president Kelley Crawford said.
The shelter is partnering with Funds2Orgs, a organization which buys gently used shoes and distributes them to “micro businesses in developing countries,” Crawford said.
“What it comes down to is we collect the shoes and [Funds2Orgs] pays us for the shoes,” Crawford noted.
Donors may contribute any type of shoes but the footwear should be in good condition.
“No holes, no mold growing on them,” Crawford said. “They should still be wearable and in good condition. It can be any kind of shoe.”
A recent half-price adoption event at the shelter helped make room for new animals, she said, adding the need for money is always a concern for shelter staff.
“Adoptions have really picked up,” Crawford said. “In fact, as of today we were at 64 adoptions for the month but we’re still pretty full. We are constantly in need for the general fund.”
If Noah’s Ark reaches its goal of collecting 2,500 pairs of shoes, the shelter will receive $1,000.
Crawford said she thinks generous residents should be able to help the shelter meet or surpass its goal.
“The one thing I’m starting to realize is this is going to be a grass roots effort,”she said. “I’m asking my coworkers and people in other businesses to round up 25 pairs of shoes. For a lot of women who are really into shoes it shouldn’t be hard to find shoes to donate.”
Residents may drop off new or used shoes at the following locations:
Noah’s Ark Animal Shelter
First State Bank
St. Paul’s Episcopal Church
Whaley United Methodist Church
Gainesville Bible Church
North Texas Medical Center
