Gainesville police are hoping to talk to a person they believe may have witnessed a fight that led to two stabbings outside CVS Pharmacy around 9 p.m. Wednesday.
The stabbings apparently stemmed from a child custody battle.
Officers were called to CVS in response to a stabbing, police spokesman Belva McClinton said in a press release.
“On the officer’s arrival, a 28 year old man was contacted. This man had a stab wound to the leg. The man said he had been in an altercation with his ex-wife’s cousin over child custody,” McClinton said.
While officers talked with the injured man, a North Texas Medical Center official notified the police department that a second stabbing victim was in the hospital’s emergency room.
“Officers went to the emergency room where they saw a 23 years old man who was being treated for a stab wound to the chest,” she said.
Two witnesses at NTMC confirmed the stabbing was the result of a disagreemen over child custody issues, McClinton said.
The 23 year old man was transferred by air ambulance to a Metroplex hospital.
“His condition is unknown at this time,” she noted.
The 28 year old man refused medical treatment for his leg injury.
McClinton said the incident is under investigation and no names are being released.
“However the police department is asking for assistance in locating a potential witness,” she said.
McClinton said the man at CVS Pharmany told police he believes a middle-aged woman in a silver Honda passenger car witnessed the incident.
“We are asking that female or anyone who knows this person to contact Investigator Daniel Orr at (940) 668-7777,” McClinton said.
