A Gainesville man was killed this week in a four-vehicle crash in Lewisville, authorities say.
J. Carmelo Gomez-Gonzales, 49, was traveling in the 1400 block of East State Highway 121 Business Wednesday, Jan. 23 when he hit a patch of ice in a 2000 Ford Ranger pickup, according to Denton County Chief Death Investigator Troy Taylor.
After going over the ice, Gomez-Gonzales slid across the median and crashed into a 2003 Dodge Dakota pickup "pretty much head-on," Taylor said.
The impact caused Gomez-Gonzales to be ejected from his vehicle, Taylor said. He was pronounced dead on the scene at 6:47 a.m.
Taylor said there was no evidence that Gomez-Gonzales was wearing a seat belt.
A 2017 Cadillac XTS and a Ford Explorer were also involved in the collision, according to Lynn O'Donnell, public information coordinator with the Lewisville Police Department.
She said one of the other drivers was injured and taken to the hospital, but she did not have any additional details.
O'Donnell said the southbound lanes of 121 Business were closed until 2:30 p.m. Wednesday.
The crash remains under investigation, she said.
