A monthlong investigation into an organized drug trafficking ring by the Cooke County Sheriff’s Office netted $8,500 worth of drugs and 17 arrests, Sheriff Terry Gilbert says.

In December, the law enforcement agency’s drug enforcement unit conducted numerous enforcement operations — including executing multiple search warrants at various homes in Callisburg,

Denison and Gainesville, a news release issued late Wednesday, Jan. 2 states.

The drug trafficking ring operated in Cooke and Grayson counties, information from Gilbert says.

During the course of the investigation, approximately 65 grams of methamphetamine with an estimated street value of $6,500 was recovered, as well as approximately 100 grams of marijuana with an estimated street value of $2,000.

Three firearms, along with various drug paraphernalia — such as digital scales and packaging materials — were also recovered, according to the news release.

The following Cooke County residents were charged during the bust and have either made bond or remain in custody at the Cooke County Jail:

Ronald Braden Smith, 30, faces a charge of engaging in organized criminal activity — manufacture/delivery of a controlled substance in Penalty Group 1 more than four grams less than 200 grams.

Kenneth James Morrell, 55, is charged with manufacture/delivery of a controlled substance in Penalty Group 1 more than four grams less than 200 grams, possession of a controlled substance in Penalty Group 2 more than one gram less than four grams and unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon.

Jennifer Deann Venable, 39, was arrested on a charge of possession of a controlled substance in Penalty Group 1 more than four grams less than 200 grams.

Cody Alan Copling, 35, is charged with possession of a controlled substance in Penalty Group 1 less than one gram.

Mika Jon Walker, 25, faces a charge of manufacture/delivery of a controlled substance in Penalty Group 1 more than four grams less than 200 grams.

Shawn Ryan Brooks, 33, is charged with manufacture/delivery of a controlled substance in Penalty Group 1 more than four grams less than 200.

Cheyenne Nicole Hughs, 26, faces a charge of manufacture/delivery of a controlled substance in Penalty Group 1 more than one gram less than four grams.

Tyler Marie Ing, 30, is charged with possession of a controlled substance in Penalty Group 1 less than one gram and falsification of a drug test device.

Catherine Desirae Pence, 32, faces charges of possession of a controlled substance in Penalty Group 1 less than one gram and driving with an invalid license.

Jordan Davis Turbeville, 33, was charged with possession of a controlled substance in Penalty Group 1 less than one gram.

Daniel Wayne Turbeville, 63, is facing a charge of possession of a controlled substance in Penalty Group 1 less than one gram.

Justin Allen Langston, 29, is charged with manufacture/delivery of a controlled substance in Penalty Group 1 more than four grams less than 200 grams.

Rebecca Ann Jeffers, 44, is facing a charge of possession of marijuana less than two ounces.

Ricky Harris Porter, 63, is charged with unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon.

Steven Michael Langston, 28, faces a delivery of a dangerous drug charge.

Michael Wayne Nicholson, 41, is charged with failure to appear — possession of a controlled substance in Penalty Group 1 less than one gram.

Brittanie Deeann Glass, 31, faces a possession of drug paraphernalia charge.

Investigators with the CCSO’s drug enforcement unit were assisted during the investigation by CCSO patrol deputies and the Cooke County District Attorney’s Office.

“The Sheriff Office will continue to pursue persons that would sell or buy illegal drugs,” the news release states. “The number of individuals that work in concert to maintain a presence of these drugs in our county is shocking. Investigations will continue and more arrests are expected.”

This is the third major drug bust by the CCSO since September, according to previous reports in the Register.
