Wesley Schutes is in custody after allegedly injuring a 7-month-old girl, who died on Thursday.

A Cooke County man that may be responsible for the death of a 7-month-old remains in custody.

Chief Deputy Jim Carter of the Cooke County Sheriff’s Office said Wesley Schutes, 31, of 2681 County Road 223, is suspected of fracturing the skull of his girlfriend’s baby, MiKaylie Cole Biggers, during the weekend.

Officers had responded to the girlfriend’s residence Sunday around 2 p.m. after receiving a call that the baby had been injured. The child was then taken by air ambulance to Cook Children’s Hospital in Dallas and was pronounced dead at 2:22 a.m. Thursday.

Schutes currently faces a charge of injury to a child and is being held on a $250,000 bond. The incident is still under investigation.
