GISD board to meet Monday
The Gainesville Independent School District board will discuss the impact of House Bill 3 on school finances at the board’s meeting Monday, June 17.
Superintendent DesMontes Stewart and Alyce Greer, the district’s director of finance, will give an update regarding the bill, which requires districts to raise teacher salaries.
Among other agenda items, the board will also get an update from Eikon Consulting on the district’s construction projects; consider engaging the firm of Schalk and Smith for an external audit; and consider proposals for asphalt on the band grid at Gainesville High School.
Board members will go into closed session to discuss personnel matters including recommendations for principal candidates at Gainesville High School and W.E. Chalmers Elementary.
The board will reconvene in open session for any necessary action on those subjects, according to the agenda.
The meeting will convene at 5 p.m. in the GISD Administration Building, 800 S. Morris St. Members of the public may address the board near the beginning of the meeting, according to the agenda notice.
TCOG board to choose officers
The governing board of the Texoma Council of Governments will elect its new officers for 2019-2020 at its next meeting, according to an agenda notice.
The board is set to meet at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, June 20, at TCOG’s offices in Sherman. Besides electing new officers, board members will also consider an interlocal agreement related to 911 services and updates to its budgets and allocations.
The TCOG offices are at 1117 Gallagher Drive.
Sen. Fallon to host legislative update June 24
Representatives from the office of state Sen. Patrick Fallon (R-Prosper) will host a Legislative Update regarding the 86th legislative session at noon Monday, June 24, at North Central Texas College, 1525 W. California St. in Gainesville. The event is open to the public.
The event is part of a tour Fallon is making through his district. He spoke to the East Parker County Chamber of Commerce this week, where he touched on the state budget, bills that were passed and things that are still left to accomplish.
Texas Country Gospel TV to host concert
At 6:30 p.m. Saturday, June 22, the Texas Country Gospel TV will host its summer concert at the Gainesville Civic Center, 311 S. Weaver St.
The concert will feature hosts of Texas Country Gospel, Mary Fay Jackson and 1 A Chords (Jones and Perry family), all of Cooke County.
Also performing are Jim Sheldon, Bev McCann and Rachael Taylor, all of Nashville’s Music City TV Show; Full Quiver, a bluegrass Gospel family group of Collinsville; and Tisha Todd, singer and radio personality of The Gospel Station Radio Network of Ada, Oklahoma. Other singers performing are Dwayne Farrow, Heather Van Deran and pianist Donnie Wiggins.
