Hearing slated next week on subdivision regulations
The Cooke County Commissioners Court will have a public hearing Monday regarding adoption of subdivision regulations for unincorporated areas of Cooke County.
The hearing will take place during the court’s scheduled meeting at 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 14, in the commissioners courtroom on the first floor of the Cooke County Courthouse, 100 S. Dixon St. in Gainesville, according to the meeting agenda.
The court will also consider a number of other items, including combining the offices of the county attorney and the district attorney into a new criminal district attorney’s office, the agenda indicates. Commissioners will also consider approval of two specific use permits requested by local businesses.
The court is slated to go into closed session to discuss matters related to real property, personnel and attorney privilege.
Anyone wishing to address the commissioners about an agenda item should arrive at least half an hour early and sign in with the Cooke County Judge’s office. Public comment will be limited to no more than five minutes per person.
Depression recovery program to start up Monday, Jan. 14
A local program for those struggling with depression and anxiety is starting up next week.
A series of eight classes using “Get Your Life Back,” a video curriculum developed by Dr. Neil Nedley, will meet 6:30-8:30 p.m. Mondays beginning Jan. 14 at the Gainesville Seventh-Day Adventist Church, 3411 N. Weaver St.
The series includes information on achieving a healthy sense of self-worth, learning coping skills, finding motivation and concentration, helping friends or family with depression, preventing depression or anxiety and other aspects of mental health.
Texoma regional council sets Thursday meeting
The Texoma Council of Governments board is set to meet at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 17, according to an agenda notice.
The board will consider a grant proposal from Cooke County United Way, among other items on the agenda. A new board member will also be inducted.
The meeting will take place at the TCOG offices at 1117 Gallagher Drive in Sherman.
Elm Fork Beekeepers to meet next week
The Elm Fork Beekeepers Association will have its monthly meeting on Thursday, Jan. 17, at the Landmark Bank Community Room. Sign-in and visiting starts at 6 p.m. and the meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m.
The association will also have a daylong course in basic beekeeping from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 19. That will take place at North Central Texas College, 1525 W. California St. in Gainesville. More information about the course is on the association’s website.
