A 21-year-old Gainesville man remained in the Cooke County Jail Thursday after he led authorities on a brief pursuit earlier this week.
Staff Sgt. Mark Tackett, a spokesman for the Texas Department of Public Safety, said around 3 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 8 a state trooper attempted to stop a rider of a motorcycle for a traffic violation traveling west on U.S. 82 just outside of Gainesville.
The rider, identified as Jacob Schneider, decided to evade and continued west at high speed, Tackett said.
Tackett said the chase was “no less than five miles” long before Schneider lost control of his motorcycle and “crashed in the crossover near U.S. 82 just west of Farm-to-Market Road 371.”
There were no injuries, according to Tackett.
Schneider was booked into jail on charges of evading with a vehicle and unlawful possession of a firearm with bond totaling $14,000.
He also has on view charges of no drivers license, failure to maintain financial responsibility and driving on the wrong side of a divided highway, according to online jail records.
