The River Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Gainesville was recently acquired by Senior Living Properties Operations of Fort Worth.
SLP manages 37 skilled nursing facilities in Texas and Oklahoma, with over 5,000 employees. “We’ve been operating in Texas for more than 20 years and are so pleased to welcome River Valley into the Senior Living Properties family,” explained CEO Cassie Mistretta. She identified Gainesville and North Texas as a new market for the firm. “We are ready to serve the family members and residents of Gainesville and the surrounding area,” she said.
Amanda Burnett, SLP Regional Vice President, will have management responsibilities for the 116-bed Gainesville facility, whose name changed slightly in the transition.
The 24-hour center offers skilled nursing, physical therapy, post-hospital care, long-term care, rehabilitation services, respite care and memory care.
“SLP’s portfolio focuses on rural communities,” explained Richard Agnew, SLP’s general counsel. “This is opposed to larger national chains who focus on urban areas.”
Agnew said rural communities are underserved and yet are excellent partners for their business.
Agnew said some of SLP’s longtime facilities had served more than one generation due to the quality of their service.
“We believe we have discovered the magic sauce,” Agnew continued, “to provide good service and being profitable.”
SLP is following a path few companies take. The Fort Worth Business Press reported on Aug. 3, 2018, that skilled nursing facilities are a critical need in rural healthcare. The report pointed specifically to the need for skilled nursing facilities to be close to patients’ homes.
“In health care and especially long-term care, distance and resources can create disadvantages for our rural neighbors, where the aging population tends to outpace the rest of the state,” The Business Press reported.
No positions were eliminated in SLP’s acquisition of River Valley. It’s also looking to hire more staff.
“We have had good luck hiring better quality staff in rural communities than others in urban areas,” is how Agnew explained the firm’s interest in more staffing.
SLP’s next closest facility is in Paris.
River Valley is at 1907 Refinery Road in Gainesville.
