Fort Worth-based singer/songwriter Josh Weathers is kicking off the 10th season of Summer Sounds on Friday, May 31, in downtown Gainesville.
Weathers, who is described as a “rock-n-soul infused” performer on his website, will take the stage on the courthouse square at 9 p.m., according to Barry Otts, event co-founder. Weathers' set is slated to run until 10:30 p.m.
The free event also features opening acts Morgan and Her Boyfriends from 6:15 to 7:15 p.m. and the Tanner Fenoglio Band from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m., Otts said.
Concertgoers are asked to bring their lawn chairs and leave their coolers at home.
Otts said there will be two food trucks at the event. One will dish up wood-fired pizza and one will serve barbecue. There will also be a snow cone vendor, he said.
All proceeds from drinks sold at the Summer Sounds concession stands go toward funding next year’s concerts, according to event organizers.
Otts encourages the public to come out and enjoy the music and company of others.
“It's a fantastic, family-friendly atmosphere,” Otts said.
The concert series is on the last Friday of May, June and July. Otts said around 25 people volunteer per event.
“We couldn't do it without them,” he said.
