Stinging the competition

The Era mixed doubles team of Carlee Black (left) and Colt Henderson (right) are headed back to State after advancing thanks to strong play at the regional tennis tournament in Nacogdoches last week. Also pictured is Era coach Kreg Anderson. State tennis begins on May 9.

Six Era Hornets competed at the regional tennis tournament in Nacogdoches on April 20-21.

It was a little disappointing as the hopes were high with four returning State qualifiers. As it turned out, only two players advanced to the State tournament, which will be held May 9-10 at World of Tennis in Lakeway.

Only the mixed doubles team of Colt Henderson and Carlee Black advanced to State. It has been a very successful year for the Hornet tennis team. Era coach Kreg Anderson said it is the strongest team from top to bottom he has had in his 17 years of coaching.

“We are hoping for a good finish from Colt and Carlee,” Anderson said. “I think their experience from last year will help them tremendously and I hope they bring home a state medal.”
