LINDSAY — There is a new team on the court at Lindsay High School. The Lady Knights took to the volleyball court at home against Forestburg this afternoon.

New Coach Don Neu said he was excited about starting up the new program. “I went to a lot of different clinics and camps this summer,” Neu said. “I learned a lot and I am really ready to get started.”

Neu said he also talked to the former coach at Whitesboro who started that program. “She said to go slowly and stick to the fundamentals,” he said.

Neu and Assistant Coach Robin Hess will try to build a volleyball team that can do as well as the softball team last year.

The Lady Knights softball team made the playoffs in their first year of play.

“We are coming along,” Neu said during practice Monday. “We scrimmaged Nocona and we did pretty well. We held our own against a team that has been playing for a long time.”

Like their counterparts on the softball field, the Lady Knights volleyball team has a few players who have played in summer and church leagues before. “Most of them are younger players,” Neu said, “but we have a couple of girls that will be on the varsity that have a little experience.”

But the big thing the Lady Knights have going for them is experience. Many of the players helped start the softball program and a lot, according to Neu, were involved in the basketball program last year.

The Lady Knights went several rounds into the playoffs and that experience will help them, Neu said. “They know how to work hard and get better,” Neu said before school let out last year. “That will always help no matter what sport you are talking about.”
