Sustained by the rallying cry of “Point Leopards!”, from the crowd of 200 at the Leopards’ Den, the Gainesville volleyball team rallied from a 2-0 deficit to make a match of it Tuesday. Gainesville battled back to tie the contest at 2-2. However, the rally fell a bit short as Van Alstyne took the fifth and final game 12-15.

The Lady Panthers took the first game 17-25 and came back to take the second 18-25.

The Lady Leopards took the third contest 25-21 and then took the fourth game 25-20.

The fifth game was tied four times, the last one being at 9-9, before the Lady Panthers pulled away.

With Jordy Phyffer, and Laci and Jaci Felderhoff leading the way, the Lady Panthers pulled to within one point at 11-12.

The Lady Panthers outscored Gainesville 3-1 in the final points of the match.

In the third game of the match, the Lady Leopards battled to a 23-19 lead before closing out the game to cut the Van Alstyne lead to two-games-to-one.

Phyffer’s slam scored the final point of the game to give the Lady Leopard the victory.

The Lady Leopards built up an 8-3 lead in the fourth game, before the Lady Panthers rallied to cut the lead to three points, at 16-13.

Laci Felderhoff’s service ace pushed the Gainesville lead to 17-13, but Van Alstyne rallied again to slice the lead down to three points, at 20-17.

Three consecutive Lady Panthers’ miscues closed out the Gainesville scoring and the Lady Leopards tied the match.

For the match, Phyffer and the Felderhoffs led the defensive charge, while the Lady Leopards got good serves from Kaitlyn Culbertson, Lenzi Marshall and Leah Sanchez.

Channing Ward also played a good match for the Lady Leopards.
