It was Mother Nature who had the final say at the North Central Texas College tennis team’s second tournament of the season, as the Lady Lions played just a portion of their matches at the Midwestern State University Invitational at Wichita Falls.
In Flight 1 singles, NCTC’s Georgina Gosen fell to Midwestern State 6-0, 7-5 in her opening match before advancing to the consolation semifinals. Rain halted play before Gosen’s next match.
Playing in Flight 2 singles, Marianna Vargas took her opening match 7-5, 7-6 (3) against Schreiner University and fell to Central Oklahoma 6-0, 6-1 in the quarterfinals. Alexandria Rodriguez found similar results in Flight 2 singles play, beating Seminole State 6-2, 3-6, 10-4 in her first match before falling in the quarterfinals to Midwestern State 6-1, 6-0.
Amy Leiu reached the semifinals before play was stopped in Flight 4 singles. Leui took her first match 6-1, 6-0 against McMurry University and beat Central Oklahoma 7-6, 5-7, 10-5 in the quarterfinals. Also in Flight 4, Katy Foster fell 6-5, 6-3 in her first match to Dallas Baptist University and beat Seminole State 6-0, 6-1 in the consolation round. Sheridan McKissick dropped her opening match 6-4, 6-2 to Northeastern State, then lost a highly contested three-set match to Southeastern Oklahoma State 7-5, 2-6, 9-11.
Flight 5 singles saw Lady Lion Elizabeth Arens drop her opening round match 6-3, 6-2 to Cameron University. Arens rebounded with a 6-1, 6-1 win against Seminole State in her consolation round. Ludivine Varga had a similar performance, losing her opening match to Southwest Baptist 6-2, 6-0, but taking her consolation match 6-3, 6-3 against McMurry.
Most double matches were cut short by the rain. In Flight 1 doubles, Gosen and Rodriguez dropped their opening match to Cameron University. Vargas and Foster won their first Flight 2 match against Southeastern Oklahoma before play was stopped. Leiu and McKissick lost their only match 8-2 to Tyler Junior College, while Arens and Varga fell to Midwestern 8-1.
