After nearly four decades, the nation’s largest privately-owned museum will have its prized contents auctioned online.
Retired Western Electric employee Don Capehart and wife, Rita, spent many years since 1982 crisscrossing the United States hunting items from the turn of the early 20th century. Such items included switchboards, phone booths, telephones, complete systems, test equipment, World War items, a 1920 motion-picture sound system, a huge display of smaller collectibles and more.
Don and Rita’s collection is so impressive, it has been featured many times in the Corsicana Daily Sun, Texas Country Reporter and on the television show American Pickers in 2011.
The decision to sell was a difficult one but needed. Don and Rita wish to retire to their country home.
